We recently finished reading Adrian Newey’s autobiography How To Build A Car.
If you like car racing, you should (and probably already have) read this book.
And if you don’t like car racing…you should still read this book.
When it comes to conversation, I am interested in anything that you’re passionate about. And Adrian Newey is certainly passionate about designing race cars. But the book is about more than just cars. Newey is a great role model for designing a career. He entered the industry not by sending resumes, but by submitting his design for a new race car feature. He went out of his way to work for people he admired (rather than taking the highest salary) and frequently turned down higher salaries to accept roles that advanced his career development. And he was a champion with three different organizations in F1…a real winner.
